17 Wonderful Years

When I graduatated from Iowa State University and started working at Meredith Corporation in 1990, I knew I had a good job. I can even remember my Grandma Moore telling me how lucky I was to have such a good job right out of college. And, I did like it, although it wasn't everything I thought it would be. But, I stayed with it and kept plugging along. In 1992 a door was opened to me that changed my world. It was the opportunity to be the editor of Better Homes and Gardens American Patchwork & Quilting magazine. Having been a quilter since I was nine years old, I thought "Wow what an opportunity." Instead of developing recipes for cookbooks, I would just develop "recipes" for making quilts. Over the next 15 years it became much more than that, but that is the simpliest way to describe what I was doing. I could write about the last 15 years...but that will take pages and pages. But, today, I just wanted to think of the hundreds of wonderful friends I've made because of this experience. The staff members I worked with were also friends as we shared more than just the production of a magazine. This photo of Elizabeth Tisinger, Jody Sanders, Jill Mead and myself was taken during my last week at American Patchwork & Quilting. Although I'm now working at APQS, they will always be my friends. Here's to you girls! You are each truly amazing woman with so much talent.
