Sunrises

In 1989 I spent the summer between my junior and senior years in college in a wonderful little town called New Milford, CT. I was an intern with the chefs at Westreco, a research and development division of Nestle. Working with Burt and Ernie, the two chefs...yes Burt and Ernie...was an interesting experience in itself. My house mate Jennifer was a sweetheart then, and still is! I learned lots that summer turning 21 and living a long way from home. A little to my surprise, I learned how much I really loved Iowa. Not that I ever didn't like it, but I don't think I appreciated it like I do today.

The house Jennifer and I rented rooms in was owned by a lovely woman that owned the floral shop in town. We were just a short walk from the local lake. It was a beautiful location. Trees everywhere. Roads that were covered in canopies of trees. I started realizing though that I wasn't seeing sunrises and sunsets. And, never could I see for miles across the fields with farm lights dotting the surface as I could in Iowa. I started missing that.

At the end of the summer when my dad drove home with me I can remember getting to about Ohio and commenting on how far I could see. To this day, I truly appreciate being able to see across the Iowa landscape. Our house sits up on a little hill overlooking the Iowa River valley, so I can see for several miles. And, I always enjoy a colorful sunrise or sunset. The other morning the sky was so pink and purple that it was just brilliant. Iwanted to share it with you.

That is so beautiful I can hardly believe it's real. There always seems to be something special about farm life and the midwest. I doubt if I could do it but it does have a certain appeal!

Beautiful pictures! There is much to be said for the long view. I so love trees and the shade they provide, but I also like to be able look away down the valley and up at the stars and moon and the sunrise/sunsets. Can't have it all, I guess. You have a lovely home location. Thank you for sharing the pix.

    Blessings,

I am always amazed by the pictures God paints across the sky in the early or waning hours of the day. Thank you for sharing these.

Wow those really are beautiful photos. You know, it wasn't until I read this post that I realized it's been over a year since I've seen a sunset/sunrise. We moved to NH last year and well, the trees are lovely, especially this time of year, but you're right - the trees block the sunsets!
