Which way doth the wind blow?
It was time for a fresh look on the fireplace mantel. I love brainstorming ideas with my mom, as two heads are better than one when it comes to creativity. And, mom has a few more years of decorating experience than I do. We had some good ideas, which lead to other ideas, which lead to some ideas for the future. So this week, we took action on some of those ideas...which lead to other ideas...which lead to this.

I made this quilt several years ago from a pattern in American Patchwork & Quilting magazine. The designer, Sandy Bonsib, made her original quilt in purples and golds. It was even on the cover if you remember! I hand-appliqued the chicken and weathervane pieces using Jeanna Kimball's applique method, which I love. Then, I sent the quilt to my Amish friend Wilma to hand-quilt. I love this quilt. I should have taken a detail photo of the fabric, as it has chicken weathervanes on it!
Knowing that I can hang a quilt on the fireplace opens up all sorts of doors...next season what will it be?
