The McNutt Family Reunion

For as long as I can remember I have always loved attending the McNutt family reunion. But, this year it seemed even more important and more interesting. Is it because I'm getting older and it means more to me to understand where I've come from?

I'll share a little of my family tree with you.

I am Heidi Alice McNutt Kaisand. Daughter of Robert Brown McNutt and Sheri-Ann Moore McNutt.
Robert is the son of Millard Brown McNutt and Virginia Louise Raine McNutt.
Millard Brown McNutt is the son of Homer Brown McNutt and Alice McNutt Kadera.

In the picture above (one of my favorite photos), from left to right are brothers Merle, Millard (my grandfather), Wayne, and Paul and their father Homer.

My middle name is from my great grandmother.
Our daughter Virginia is named for her great grandmother.

At this particular family reunion, my great uncle Merle was the only living McNutt brother. Most of my father's first cousins (children of these four men) were in attendance. I've always thought these cousins were interesting...an equine veterinarian, a hog farmer turned wine maker, a speech pathogist teaching at the university level, a banker, a graphic artist with a former medical profession, and more. I was the oldest of the next generation in attendance, and my children were the only ones in yet the next generation.

We spent Sunday afternoon chatting, looking at old photos, catching up on what everyone is doing. I, of course, had to ask if anyone had photos with quilts in them. Cousin Martha McNutt Port showed me a beautiful 1930s Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt made by Homer's two sisters Mary and Bessie. I had no idea this quilt existed.

When I take pictures of the kids I often think about them looking at them someday talking about the details of their family history.
