My first On-Line Class

I finally got a chance to download my first on-line class that I am teaching at APQU (American Patchwork & Quilting University).

I love working with wool, so sharing what I do with you was really exciting. The quilts that are used in the class were made for Goldie Maurine and Virginia Rose. Sue Urich from Garner machine quilted them on her APQS! She does such a nice job.

But, I must say...watching myself on video is always funny. Do I really make those funny facial expressions? Next time I must remember to keep my chin extended to avoid that double chin! I hope that you'll visit APQU and see if this class or any of the others are right for you. And, be sure to come back here and tell me all about your experience. Are video classes the way of the future? Or just one more way to gather quilting knowledge? Do you prefer sitting in a classroom with other students? Maybe the best question is, why do you take a quilting class? Is it to learn a specific technique or simply to enjoy quilting with a group of people?

I know when I'm buying fabric that I have lots of options for finding it--quilt shops, on-line, and catalog. And, although I've used all of those resources at some time, I must admit that I like to touch the fabric in the store. Maybe it's because I'm a tactile person, or maybe I'm just swept up in the moment and get so excited that I can't help myself. Whatever that emotion is, I only experience that in a store.

As I plan the retreat I'm hosting in July, many of these same kinds of questions and thoughts have been going through my head. Why do people go to a retreat? What can I provide to those that are coming to make it a memorable and enjoyable experience? When I go on a retreat, what do I want out of it? If you have ideas, be sure to share. My mom and I spent several hours this week starting to make sure every detail is planned. I think we got the food all worked out. It's a delicate balance of healthy and sweet...not too much, but enough. Our theme for the July retreat is Triple Treat Retreat, with the triple referring to fabric, food, and friends. Three very important things! So, we've been weaving that theme in and around the weekend.

It's a beautiful day here in Iowa. Suppose to be 85 degrees. The pond is gently moving and mother Robin is making sure I don't bother the nest she has built on our porch stairs. There are three eggs in side. (I'm writing this from our covered porch, just outside Goldie and Virginia's room so I can listen to them as they nap!) Life is good.
