Hot Days of Summer
Iowa is having a heat wave this week. I guess that's too be expected since it is August! When bible school ended last week (it was a beach theme--surfin' the scripture), Henry came home with one of the wading pools. It's now in our front yard and getting lots of use.

Goldie is on the left, Virginia is on the right. Don't you wish you had cherry swimsuits? I do. Although I don't think I would look this cute.
This was really a new experience for the girls. They took it slow. Especially Goldie. I had our folding chairs out and since Goldie didn't want to get in at first, I just put her in one of the chairs. I pulled the chair close enough to the pool that she could dangle her toes and get them wet. Every once in awhile I would ask her if she was ready to get in the pool. It was always answered with a strong shaking of the head "no." After about 45 minutes she finally decided it was ok to get in and she simply slid into the water from the chair. Then it became a game...climb out of the pool and into the chair...slide from the chair into the pool. Well, Virginia wanted to do this too! I pulled the second chair next to the pool and she proceeded to get that knee up to the chair seat and pull herself up. By this point she was starting to get tired and she leaned back in the chair and was lounging. What a hoot!
Meanwhile, big brother Henry was surfing. After a weeklong theme of beaches and surfing, he thought he needed to do that in the pool.

Our friend Al had found this piece of fabric-covered board that looks like a surf board and had brought it to our house. Well, Henry knew this was the perfect thing to surf with. I love the looks on the girls faces as they watch Henry. What might be going through their head?
"Do you really think you can catch a wave in this pool Henry?"
After our fun on Saturday in the pool, it was a little dirty and grass filled. So Sunday morning I bucketed out the water to give our plants a drink. Then re-filled it for another fun day of swimming on Sunday. It hit 94 degrees so the water felt good.
Stay cool!

I don't know what I'd do without our wading pool! Love the bathing suits...and, btw, I saw a lovely cartoon of you in the past issue of QN! I was flipping thru and said OMG there's "my" Heidi!
Love the retreat posts - they make me want to call my girlfriend and leave the kids home and just go quilt with you. Happy belated (and welcome to the other side - it's actually kind of nice over here!).

Too cute! Now I want a cherry swimsuit too. Great idea...I need to get a pic of my kids in the pool before the heat wave is over.
