Gifts are so fun to give and to receive

I've always loved giving people gifts that make them happy. And, I think I accomplished that yesterday! My niece Megan is about to turn 9 years old and is in third grade. She and her family live out near Corning, New York. You may have seen some of the sewing that Megan has done in the past, but I wanted to open the doors of a bigger sewing world to her. I bought her a sewing machine!! My parents were driving out to visit, so they got the job of hauling the sewing machine and the excitement of seeing her open it up. Doesn't this say it all?

She called last night to thank me. I just wish I was there to help her sew. And, won't it be fun to get her hooked on fabric...and all of the wonderful patterns she can make. And, I've already googled a quilt shop 3 miles from their house that is a Viking dealer and will be a great resource, I'm sure.

Then there was the gift I gave myself yesterday that brought tears of happiness to my eyes when I saw this image. (I know, I cry easily.)

This was taken with my brand-new, very exciting Canon camera. I can't remember all of the numbers and letters that follow...10x or s or i or something! That's so not important. But, it's the photos I can take with it that are! I was in the car with the window rolled down and Henry was at least 30 feet from me. I told him I had to practice using my new camera (my anniversary gift) so to turn around and smile.

It's like one of those VISA commericals.

Sewing machine: $150
Camera: $450
Smiles: priceless

And, I've already sold my Nikon to a friend that has never had a digital camera. She stopped by this morning on her way to a golf meet to get the camera. I can't wait to see what she does with it.

I also found a great new blog that had a wonderful entry about gift giving...don't miss it!

You can almost hear your niece squeal with joy just by looking at that picture of her! I got my own sewing machine for Christmas when I was 18 and my dad was so excited to give it to me that a couple of days before Christmas he let it slip! I loved that Christmas and think of that memory often when I sit down to sew. The quality of the picture of Henry is evident in the photo. I have only had my digital for two years but I love it!!

    Those smiles are DEFINATELY priceless!!
....and how fun that your niece is so excited about sewing!! I have 8 nieces ranging in age from 2 to 25 plus my best friend's daughter and I've had the fun of teaching 4 of them how to do some sort of sewing so far ....and, as a matter of fact, my 2 rough and tumble boys (who are now 15 and 18 year old dirtbike racer guys) had their brief fascination with my sewing when they were younger ..... I think that had to do with the similarity of the foot pedal to a gas pedal on a car!! zzzzzOOOOOOOOM!!!!!(I had to pull them over for reckless sewing!!)

P.S. Thanks so much for visiting me on my blog! Please come back again soon!
