Stringing the Lights

The design of our house is intended to look like a barn. So when we were building the house, my husband got the idea that hanging a hay track down the middle of the great room would be cool. And, it is! We have this giant hay fork hanging in the center, too.

Well, it's the perfect place to hang lights. Although it's not exactly an easy task, as the peak is 24 feet off the ground. Jeff drags out the ladder and creates long extension poles with hooks on them for getting the lights up. After searching for strands of lights that actually work, the hanging begins. (Don't you just hate it when half of the strand works?)

This will give you a little idea of how it's done! Here's Jeff at the end of the rail...or the front of the house. That black bar is the hay rail.

Note that the ladder is extended above our cupboards. Then he uses a long rod to get to the peak. He's holding the rod in the photo above.

And, there is always a little boy wanting to help.

Looks like a lot of fun could be had with such a design. But I wouldn't want to be the one doing the hanging! I was a spring board diver in high school, and now I am afraid of heights!!!
    I enjoy your blog!

You are so right about the "working lights" thing. Took three nights of fiddling before we got our favorite strands of lights to work on the tree. They're just red, green and white and do look so pretty but they are 20 years old!!! I hope you'll share a picture of the finished lighting. Henry looks sad that he cannot be of more help.
