Capturing the Story

Taking pictures of our children is as much a part of my day as eating breakfast. Henry even requests me to take a picture sometimes. And, I love it when I see him "taking pictures" of his sisters. Might just have to get him a camera for his 5th birthday this year. Over the last 5 years I've even upgraded cameras to be able to acheive what I want with the camera. I'm not a professional, and I still get blurry pictures, and cut things off that I didn't mean to, but I LOVE taking pictures. Later this month, I'm taking an on-line photography class through our local continuing education program. The class is sure to broaden my knowledge about all of the settings on the camera. I do love the convenience of taking the class in my own home, on my own time. My local camera shop is excellent about answering my "stupid" questions. They call me by my first name everytime I come in--just one reason why I buy my equipment there.

Taking lots of pictures is great, but then we must do something with them! I have fallen in love (no I'm not a CM consultant, and no I'm not getting anything for promoting them) with the two digital products from Creative Memories. (My favorite CM consultant is a long-time family friend and a mother to 4 including a set of twins.) Beth is so supportive and knows how excited I get when I start talking about these products. I've given my sales pitch to many friends as to why they should buy these products and I'm here to support them in using the products. They just are so much fun. I want everyone else to have as much fun with them as I do. So what is it I like...

Memory Manager is the product for organizing the photos, fixing red-eye, cropping, etc. I've taken several of the free on-line tutorials and webinars that they offer and learn something new everytime about how to use this program. For the first time ever I can tell you that every photo I've taken is labeled and organized and can be quickly found. It is so important in our pictures to identify Goldie and Virginia, as there are days when they look more alike than others. I've even gone back to some of the baby photos and would not have labeled them the same today as I did then. Wow! What does that say about how those girls are identical? And, continue to change.

I could just print all of the pictures out as 4x6 prints, and I will do that for some. But, by using the StoryBook Creator Plus software I'm able to turn some of the photos I take into little story books and single pages. It's so much like quilting...find the right paper, cut the paper into shapes, put it all back together. But, it's all done on the computer. No mess, no hauling out all of the "stuff". If I crop a picture wrong, no big deal, I just go back to the original on Memory Manager and start over. I can do it in small segments (remember my comment in the last post about 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there). Well, I have been doing the same with StoryBook since Christmas and have sent some pages to get printed this week. I just have to share them with you.

These will print as 12x12 pages. This is my favorite. It's so interesting in these photos how I think Goldie and Virginia are very different.

Not many days go by when someone doesn't have the fireman's coat on. This particular day it was Virginia.

This Christmas was a little different, as my family was never able to get together because of the girls being sick and the weather. I decided that a page of pictures from when my brother and his family with my parents and pictures from when we opened their gifts with my parents would at least "hold together" what might have been if we'd been together.

Hope you enjoyed a couple of my pages!
