Practicing Makes Perfect Pantos

In preparation for a Fons & Porter TV episode I'm taping next week, I got a private lesson yesterday from APQS Director of Education Dawn Cavanaugh. If you've ever had the chance to meet Dawn, you know how nice she is! She's a patient teacher and full of knowledge.

Although I know what a pantograph is, and I understand the basics of how to do one, I wanted more training. Although I'm a 30-year quilting veteran, I've only been long-arming for about 18 months. She shared tips with me about how to pick out a panto, what quilts work best for pantos, how to practice, and how to execute them. Then she put me to work.

For the next three hours I practiced on Lenni and a "beautiful" muslin quilt. My arms were tired, but I was excited by the end result. I'm ready to share my new excitement for pantographs with the viewers of Fons and Porter.
