Mud pie anyone?

Virginia, looking determined as ever.
What is it about mud that attracts children? Now that the weather is getting nicer, we play outside as much as possible. Fresh air and good physical activity is wonderful for all of us. I think we all sleep better. With the rain we've had this spring, our driveway has had a few muddy spots. With the amount of clay in our soil, the mud gets really clumpy and sticks. On this particular night last week, everyone pulled on their mud boots before heading out. (Don't you love the Miss Kitty boots for the girls?)

There was "work" to be done and the kids got busy. Henry was busy showing Virginia how to get the truck unstuck. While Goldie petted Sam, the orange cat.

Then came the realization for Virginia that she was covered in mud. The looks on her face were priceless.
Above and below, Virginia and her muddy hands.
Before it was all said and done, Virginia had mud on her face, too. I mentioned we would get it all washed off. Next thing I know she's headed into the house to get that mud off of her face and hands! Bath time was a must this particular evening. Pellets of mud were everywhere. But the fun times were priceless.

Heidi, Reading your blog and seeing the pictures of you and your kids is like walking down Memory Lane for me. I remember mud pies with my sister when I was a kid and I remember my daughter and her friends making mud pies, too. And I didn't comment the other day, but when I read your post and saw the picture of you and your Grandma and Tender Love, I nearly cried. My daughter still has her Tender Love that she got her first Christmas from her Grandma Mary (my mom). It traveled all the way from Iowa to Japan where we were stationed in the military and then home again. The thing I remember about making mud pies was that we lived near the river and so the mud was full of silt and it felt as soft as silk. Mud pies made out on the farm at Grandpa's were more clumpy.

P.S. That look on Virginia's face is total glee. I can remember seeing that look on both my kid's faces and I'm sure on me, too, when I was a kid (a lonnnng time ago).

How fun is that? We too are enjoying outside activities every day. Only, here, it is in the pool and such. The kids sleep so much better if they have played hard outside! And this Gramma, loves it when they take a good long nap!
Love the pictures. Mine all have boots too!
