"Men of MQS" From left, Mark Caraher, Bob Ketcham, and Tony O'Tool
Thursday night activities at MQS included the Audacious Auction for Education, with money being raised to support the IMQA Foundation Grant Program. In an organization were the majority of the members are women, the group had a little fun this evening asking many of the vendors (a.k.a men) to help hold quilts. About 12 men came dressed in white shirts and black pants, ready to hold up quilts. Look how well our own Tony O'Tool does.
What we weren't expecting is the fun we had with the auctioneer! MQS had hired a professional auctioneer, but for some reason he didn't show up. Lucky for us, APQS Mark Caraher is not afraid to be in front of a crowd and he became our auctioneer.
The evening MC Linda Thielfoldt and Mark made a great team.
Although Mark is not an auctioneer, he quickly found his groove for getting the crowd. He explained to them that he couldn't talk fast, but he could say "hubba bubba hubba bubba" and such! The crowd loved it. As the evening went on we even got a little soft shoe...and we tried hard to get him to sing for money.
Mark Caraher doing his best to get the crowd to open up their pocket books.
Every quilt was beautiful and the money was supporting a good cause. It's always more exciting when the quiltmaker is someone you know. And, that was just the case with this beautiful quilt made by Claudia Pfeil that Bob Ketcham is holding.
Both Mark and Bob worked hard to help get a selling price of $1000 for Claudia's quilt. It was stunning in person with crystals dancing across the surface. She described it as a smaller version of her award-winning MQS Theme quilt. See my APQS blog for pictures of that quilt and the first place theme quilt by Marilyn Badger and Claudia Clark Myers.

Well who can't have an opinion....silly them. Heidi...I so love your blog, enjoy the articles about the girls and your son...they are SO cute.
