A Sparkling Weekend

I love planning a good party, but sometimes the best parties are those that are impromptu. The 4th of July weekend was just that. With the wedding on Friday night, we hadn't made any plans on Saturday and Sunday, sort of assuming we'd be catching up and relaxing after the big event. But, with a little last minute planning we had a wonderful fishing bbq party on Saturday night and a day at the water park on Sunday. There's nothing better than spending time with friends--and having so much fun!

First a few pictures from the fishing party. The men came first to get the poles in the water.

The women came later with the food. My job was meat...pork loin cooking slowing on the grill, a rack of pork ribs, and some mock filets. Is your mouth watering...it all was quite tasty. Jo 1 brought fresh chocolate chip cookies with pecans and macadamian nuts (I really didn't want to share these, but I did.). Then Jo 2 brought the salads, chips, and lots of munchies. Megan brought a red, white, and blue festive, and good pretzel salad. No shortage of food at our events!

A bowl of honey roasted peanuts, M&Ms, nibs, and malted milk balls was a hit with the kids. (Megan and Kyle have three kids--4, 2, and 10 months--so that matches up nicely with our 5 and 2 combination.) We put Doc in charge of this bowl of treats, and he was soon the hit of the party!

My girls love babies--dolls or real! So, holding baby Parker was a hit. That's Virginia with the death grip on Parker!

The fisherman came in for supper on the porch.

Then it was back to fishing. Even the bride went out to test the waters. That's Liz in the UNI sweatshirt.

A Fourth of July celebration would not have been complete without sparklers in the back yard. Here's Liz making figure 8's.

After a good night's rest, we planned for some fun in the sun! The fourth of July was quite gloomy, rainy weather. But, Sunday the 5th was perfect for going to the waterpark. There were areas/rides/slides for everyone.

From the lazy river, where Brett and Liz might have liked to relax...but had company!

My girls loved the slides, especially when Jo went with them!

Don't we all wish we could look this cute in a hat? Parker pulls it off nicely.

In one area, the slides were just perfect for the 2-year-old girls to go on with no help. Virginia often would go up and just stand at the top. If a line formed behind her she would go down, otherwise you didn't know what she was going to do. For example, what is this move?

My girls didn't like the spitting turtle, but Morgan must have thought the water felt good on her back!

Goldie liked playing with the bubbling water.

Best of all we ALL had fun.

Happy Birthday Morgan!! Today she turns two.

This wraps up the holiday weekend...next I'm off to Mankato to speak to a quilt group!

A friend from the Mankato guild suggested I should join the group when I moved out here to Henderson but I thought the drive was too far (about 27 miles) so I said no. Perhaps, I should have listened to her and I would be able to hear your program!
Your impromptu holiday fun looked like a great time. I liked the picture of Goldie, Virginia and Jo going down the water slide. The girls have almost identical expressions on their faces.
