I Did, I Can, I Will!

On Sunday, I officially celebrated the 20th anniversary of my 21st birthday. So I did turn 41. A summer birthday is great because you can be outdoors!

Saturday night we had some friends over, although it wasn't an official birthday party, I'll include it as part of my birthday in review! They did sing me happy birthday before we cut into a large birthday cookie! The highlight of the evening was that we all went out on the pond for a spin.

There was a little fishing, and a lot of playing with worms.

The sun was setting.

Sunday, the offical birthday, began with a pancake breakfast at church. My parents were at our house when we got home to keep the celebration going. I love a good cake with good frosting, and Mom brought one for me.

Henry has a great "I can" attitude when it comes to cutting cakes. You might recall the
girls 2nd birthday earlier this year.

He has yet to learn about portion sizes!

Much of the afternoon was spent bbqing pork ribs and pork loin for the annual church golf outing. It was a beautiful day for golfing and we ended up serving 50+ people. The usual fun was had by all...but the evening ended with a marriage proposal.

The groom-to-be had obviously done some pre-planning to make this special for his future bride. He made it memorable for sure. This young couple will be entering their senior year of college, and both play college golf. So after they had eaten, they headed back out to the links for a few more holes. After they left the clubhouse, a specially embroidered "Will you marry me?" flag replaced the 4th hole green flag by our club house. Family and friends that had arrived for the event came out from behind closed doors to watch their approach to the green.

John very quickly took Katie's hand and got down on one knee...yes, a tear jerker for all us hopeless romantics. My camera wasn't quick enough to get him down on one knee, but I did get the hug that immediately followed.

And, the look on Katie's face when she turned around to the crowd that had grown to 100.

She said I will.

A belated Happy Birthday to you! I like your way of thinking. I have used that line of thinking and have celebrated the 40th anniversary of my 19th birthday and then this year was the 40th anniversary of my 20th birthday. Sounds so much better than saying my real age. However, I don't mind age that much as some of my dearest friends are women in their 80's and 90's who often keep a pace that just amazes me! Congrats to John and Katie! Love the proprosal he made!
