These Boots were Made for Quilting

Exhiliration, liberation, excitement, relief, and awe are just a few of the feelings I've had in past week. Knowing I was going to have two professional long-arm machine quilters (Connie and her daughter, Emily) available to work, I had been piecing some new quilts. But as the time grew closer I also started revisiting the UFO pile.

With daily access to the wonderful APQS quilting machines in our office, I do get to finish my own projects. But with 30 years of piecing and appliqueing under my belt I've not gotten caught up with those set-aside...I'll finish sometime...projects. Do you have any of those? I started pulling them out, one by one, finding suitable backing and binding fabrics. That in itself was exciting...digging through the piles of fabric looking for just the right piece of fabric. I finally am using a few pieces that I had loved and therefore bought yards of! Have you done that before?

I first had Connie bind three quilts I had machine-quilted. Then we put Emily on the machine. Last week I showed a picture of Emily and Connietandam quilting. Today I'll show you a different view of Emily quilting.

Once all is said-and-done, I think they'll have quilted and bound 14 projects and bound 3 more. AMAZING! It's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can move forward with a sense of accomplishment. Now I'm trying to decide which quilts will become gifts and which ones I'll try selling on Etsy.

Until then, I want to share just a little of Emily's work.

A Thimbleberries class project that didn't make it any further. Darn cute as a small wall quilt.

A baby quilt that I pieced and added some wool appliques.

An antique quilt top that was feeling alone and sad in my cabinet is now happy and "crowing" for a spot to shine.

Detail of quilting and backing fabric.

I think I need some "quilting boots" or a friend with a pair of them as I have several projects that are just waiting to "grow up" and become quilts. Just this afternoon my crazy quilting friends and I were discussing machine quilting and all agreed we can't imagine adding a new thing to learn about! It all started when we admired the work of a local arm quilter and decided it's best left to the experts. Like her and you and your quilting friends.
