A little or a lot

Texture can make such a difference! People joke about fondling fabrics, but it's so true. Some bolts of fabric are soft and smooth, some have a coarseness that isn't always pleasing. When you look at bolts of fabrics, some stick out because they are warm, or have depth, or have movement in the design. I often find fabrics "that speak to me." And, I like mixing textures. I appreciate the smoothness of cotton, but love the depth and sometimes coarseness of wool. Mixing cottons and wools in projects is something I try to do as often as possible. Using perle cotton  or wool thread for appliqueing adds yet another texture to the mix. Wether it's just a little, or a lot, working with mulitple mediums is fun.

Do you like to mix mediums? I've got yards of ric-rac waiting to embellish a project. Ribbons, too. Oh, and who can not love buttons. As I was cleaning my sewing room on Sunday I found some lovely linen, silk, and velveteen that would work nicely into some projects too. And, what to do with the stash of decorator fabrics (mostly with chickens on them)?? Maybe I'll post those next and get your ideas.

In my mass project finishing mode of this past month, one of the projects that was completed mixes cotton and wool. It's quite simple, but will add a bit of charm at the holidays!

It's 19 inches x 10 1/2"; the appliques are hand-stitched and the entire piece is machine-quilted by Connie Keller. The machine-quilting added another great layer of texture. Connie did some detail work and really brought the appliques to life. I'll be posting it on my Etsy site soon!

I love to mix mediums! I just plain love anything to do with fabric!! LOL! I see you are headed to the State Fair today. Have fun! I have wonderful memories of visits to the fair when I was a kid. When I was home in July, my mother and I got to talking about the fair and she said her favorite thing was to be on the second floor and look down at all the flowers and exhibits. My favorite memory is how large the cows were and that chocolate milk at a booth near the barn! Oh, I could go for a cold glass right now!
