Iowa has Great Stuff

Many of you might think the only thing produced in Iowa is corn. And, yes, there is a lot of corn here. But, it's just one of many products. At the Iowa State Fair many of these things are showcased for everyone to see. A few of my favorite's are Hoppy's Lemonade, being made at the Iowa State Fair since 1947 by the same family. We visit the stand on the sidewalk between the sheep barn and the 4-H building multiple times during the fair. My personal favorite is cherry lemonade. We've even got Henry hooked.
Never skip the Pork Tent. Best pork chop meal for the money during the state fair.

And, who can skip the Dairy Barn where they serve up the best milkshakes around.

My favorite product made by Iowans are quilts! More than 800 quilts were displayed. Here is just a sampling.

This quilt took top honors at the show. Stunning!

Sadly, the 2009 Iowa State Fair has come to a close. But, not to worry, they've already put this on the Iowa State Fair web site. Mark your calendars now!
2010 Fair is "Non Stop Fun" August 12-22
The 2010 theme - "Non Stop Fun" - harkens to the endless array of food, animals, entertainment, exhibits, rides, music, people-watching, contests, er, well…you get the idea. The 2010 Iowa State Fair promises to be the same round-the-clock blur of activity folks have come to expect from the country's favorite state fair.

Did you have any quilts at the fair this year?

We lived in Iowa from 1989-1993 and went to the fair every year. We loved and we still talk about the pork chops to this day!!
