Labor of Love
Without labor nothing prospers. --Sophocles

Taken in my flower garden this morning.
It's been a slow process, but a labor of love--I have my own on-line shopping for MY creations. Yeah! For some it might sound like a small victory, but for me, it's huge. Two years ago I made a life changing decision to switch jobs and alter the direction I was headed...personally and professionally. This past week I celebrated my 2-year anniversary in blogland and at my full-time job at APQS. Check out your chance to celebrate that event with me. There's still time to post a comment by Tuesday and 5 p.m. CST.
The blog has given me a creative outlet I could not have imagined existed. It's my chance to tell my story in my words and with my photographs. Although I love reading your comments and having people say "I saw that on the blog", I'm much more motivated to write and share because of my family. When I left my job at the magazine, I was often asked "How can you leave such a great job?" The answer for me was easy. I had a precious family at home that needed a mother and a wife more than they needed a magazine editor. And, not that I think my life will be cut short by illness or death, but I often feel this inner burning need to write down the happiness and joy that truly surrounds me. I'm so blessed and I will not and do not take that for granted. The blog has become my life journal, a legacy I can leave behind. And, no my life isn't perfect, but I choose to find the good and the special every day.
Beyond the blog, I've found a new passion in creative ideas with my dear friend Maureen. She and I have been working for some time on a new fabric line. We have found a few bumps in the road, but vow to keep plugging away until we find the fabric company that fits us and we fit them. I know we have something special in the watercolor art that Maureen is creating. And, soon, very soon, someone is going to recognize that same specialness that I see. Until then, we're working together to create patterns that can be recreated by you. Our first effort is the FIRST pattern for sale on my new shopping site.
Let me introduce you to Sunrise Blossom.

This is a motif that Maureen designed and I interpreted into a wool table mat. (And, my mother helped stitch it!) Now, you, too, can make it if you purchase a pattern. Whoo Hoo!!
Watch for the end results of my work with black-and-white prints in my next blog post...and my next addition to my store.
Thank you for supporting me in all my efforts.

Heidi--
This is ironic because just today when I read your turtle piece, I was hoping that you were keeping all these writings. Let me also suggest that you print them each out in hard copy just to be sure you will have them in times to come. When I was doing a lot of writing, I did not print them all. Programs change, and now much of that writing is lost. "They" kept preaching to keep back-ups, and I did, but that does me no good now, and those thoughts of that time that flowed are lost.
I was also hoping that you are keeping a journal (some even in addition to what you are doing on-line) so you can look back on them long after the kids are gone.
I did a fairly diligent job of journaling for a few years when the kids were at home, and I do so enjoy reading them now. Often as I journal in the evening, I read the entries of the same date from a long time ago. They're so interesting, and it's wonderful to remember those things that would be lost had I not written them down!
Keep writing!!

I have transferred all of my blog posts and photos to a hard-cover book using Creative Memories. 2007 is printed, 2008 is laid out, just needs to be tweaked before printing, and I haven't started to transfer 2009 yet. But I will.
