Her Special Day
When someone new joins the quilting family, my heart warms because I know they are in for a life-time of creativity, friendship, and happiness. Melissa joined me at the Hen and Chicks spring retreat and her eyes seemed to sparkle as she cut and pieced her quilt top. But the most overwelming moment were her tears of joy as her first quilt that she intended to be her wedding quilt was quilted.
Melissa chose a great beginner's pattern--Yellow Brick Road--to make her first quilt top.

Then came the talk with machine quilting expert and teacher Dawn Cavanaugh. Next came the quilting. Dawn stayed up late, really late, and finished it on Friday night (Saturday morning). After all of the retreat guests got settled in for the morning of sewing, Melissa unveiled the finished quilt top.

The end result was happiness. Best wishes to Melissa and her finance on a warm-and-cozy-quilted-covered marriage.

Beautiful quilting and I just love the heart variations in the quilting!

What a beautiful quilt!! Lucky girl!!
I like the seemingly random pattern...there are a lot of new quilts that I'm not enthralled with; I like the old scrap quilts! That's why I like this one.
I need to see about finding this pattern. I won't make a quilt, but I'd like to know how to do a square and use it for a pillow top. I might get that done!!

I remember seeing Melissa sitting at the table and she was just so in awe of getting her quilt finished and having Dawn do it. Just watching it all evolve was really neat. The quilt is just beautiful!

I love it when we get a new victim, umm, I mean quilter. When my daughter in law joined our family almost six years ago little did she know that she'd get sucked into my world. She used the Yellow Brick Road pattern in pastels to make a quilt for her mother for Christmas and it turned out beautifully and her mother is always wrapped up in it. Isn't it wonderful to watch these girls get addicted?
