The Creative Week in Review

Last Monday morning I awoke with a sense of energy that made me feel like the week was going to be a good one. It ended up being a great one! We moved into our house in March 2006 and I've been patiently waiting for my builder to finish my range hood. You might wonder what was so special...or so difficult...that it took four years. Rocky, the builder, is as creative as many of us quilters and sometimes there's that one project you just have a stumbling block with. Our range hood was his. I wanted it to be copper to match the barn lights, but still simple. He wanted it to fit the house. I can tell you today that it's been installed for 6 days and it feels like it's always been there. His creative block was worth the wait! From the side, the range hood has the profile of a barn...perfect for our barn-inspired house.

Photography has really become an important part of my life. I love capturing those candid moments that you want to remember forever and taking pictures of all the silly things that we do. But there is always room for improvement! My Creative Memories consultant Beth Steffensen had a class Tuesday night about photography. The girls and I went to Des Moines while the boys did chores. The CM presentation was great and I walked away with something new to learn--how to use the exposure button. The what you ask? Yeah, that's what I said, too. So out came the manual and I've been reading and playing ever since. Now to apply what I've learned!

Next on the creative week's schedule was planning for the next episode of Fons and Porter TV show that I'll be taping April 28. Marianne Fons, Cindy Hathaway, and I got the episode planned out and ready to go! I'm going to talk about allover quilting motifs and how you can do them better! My quilt Tropical Burst was quilted by Emily Keller in an allover design and it's going to be featured on the program.

The house needed a fresh-as-spring change on the mantel, so with help from my mom, we put away the ice skates and brought out the spring flowers. It was amazing how it changed the feeling of our living room.

But the best part of the week was yesterday. And, why might you ask? Because our little angels turned three. It's so hard to believe that Goldie and Virginia are already three. So, there was a party for the grandparents complete with decorations fit for ladybugs.

Our honored guests had lots of fun. And, the rest of us did too! (That's Goldie in the background and Virginia in the foreground.)
