An Awesome Addition to the Fair
There are so many things to love about the Iowa State Fair, but they surprised me with something new to love this year! It is awesome. The new Jacobson Exhibition Center is wrapped in quilt blocks. The handout says that each Iowa county had a chance to submit winning designs in the Spring of 2009. Winning designs were then constructed in tile on the exterior of the building. The quilt block project is said to incorporate Iowa's heritage and tradition of barn quilts into this building. (The interior of this building is beautiful too...)
Here are just a few of the Iowa counties and their blocks.

The exterior of the building.

What a colorful way to wrap the building in quilt blocks!

What a lovely idea - when will the first quilt show be held there? BTW, Heidi I'm still enjoying the sweet votive candle holder and candle mat I won in your giveaway last year!
Enjoy what's left of summer.
Hugs.

Are these blocks all original? any historical significance?? What a wonderful idea and so appropriate for Iowa and all the pioneers that rode across its prairies!

Oh, I remember when we had a contest at our county fair for these blocks! I don't think I entered, but it was fun to see all the blocks to represent Franklin county. I like the one they chose, but given the view from our farm now, I think it should have been a windmill block!
